Magnets

I am getting a demolisher kit rolling out but I want to take advantage of all the weapon options by using magnets, Personally I have never worked with magnets and I was wondering if anyone had any tutorials or tips.
Thanks!

  1. There's a few out there that are good. Las One Standing has a bit on magnetizing his Wave Serpent (http://lasonestanding.blogspot.com/2009/10/magnetize-your-hoverationism-ocity.html). ThePaintingCorps has one on magnetizing a Predator turret (http://thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com/2009/01/magnetic-predator-turret.html). And directly related, there's Demolisher articles by BlackDiamondGames (http://blackdiamondgames.blogspot.com/2009/07/new-demolisher-kit-40k.html) and Corruptor at ForTheEmperor (http://www.fortheemperor.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=65).

    My tips?
    1. Magnets mount best on large, flat surfaces.
    2. The closer the magnet is to the center of balance and the horizontal, the less likely you are to get droop or spin at the joint. Multiple deep, multiple side-by-side, or larger magnets can mitigate this.
    3. In thick plastic, you'll get a more secure bond by insetting the magnet flush into the plastic. For thinner plastic (1mm), it's better to just attach a larger magnet on the inside.
    4. When you first get your magnets, stack them up so they're all in the same polarity. Then take a permanent marker and mark the same face down the line. It can rub off even after it dries, but is still worth doing.
    5. When putting a magnet in place, use the tip of an old xacto blade to place it. The metal will keep the magnet aligned in the direction you want and gives a glue-free surface to push the magnet flush with.

I'm sure there's more, but those are the big ones that come to mind right now. Cheers and hope this helped.
